Fantastic Start back to school

What a brilliant week first week back we’ve had at Ravenswood Primary - so many lovely highlights.

Year 1 children have been investigating a crashed space landing. Year 6 children had a brilliant trip to Beamish. Children in year 4 were scaling high ropes and snow tubing. We hosted the Quad Kids tournament on consecutive days for children from Ravenswood and other local schools. A fantastic week – thank you everyone.

Friends of Ravenswood (FOR) Money Snake Challenge

The FOR are excited to announce a fun fundraising event for every class to take part in.

On Friday 1st May, we are inviting each class to create their very own Money Snake using 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins.

Please have a rummage through your money boxes and send any of these coins into school with your child from Monday 27th April. The whole class will work together to lay out any money brought in to form a snake on the school yard. The class that creates the longest Money Snake will win a prize.

All money raised will go directly toward purchasing new resources for the children to enjoy.

Thank you for your support in helping make this activity both fun and educational for our students!

Meet the team:

Meet (from left to right) Cluck Norris, Lady Peckerton, Nugget and Henrietta. I’m sorry but at the minute the girls are not great at lining up neatly for a photograph. It’s been lovely to welcome the chickens to school this week and all of the children have been excited to meet them.

Lots of children in year 5 have signed up to become ‘chicken rangers’ and look after the children across the week (so many so that we’ve had to develop a two weekly rota).

Two chickens have started to lay eggs and we’re going to sell them (to pay for chicken food) to children that would like to buy them (4 eggs for £1). If you would like to, please pay £1 in advance at the school office and write the child’s name and class number so that our chicken rangers can make sure the eggs are delivered to the right families.

Children’s Cancer Run

On Sunday 17th May at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth Park, Ravenswood Primary School will have a slot to take part in the Children’s Cancer Run. Children and families can take part in either the mini run: 1k or the 3/5mile run. Mrs Williams will be there to lead the mini run and Mr Anderson will be at the start of the 3/5 mile run. However, children will need to either run the 3/5 mile run with a friend or be accompanied by an adult as there won’t be staff members to complete with children.

To sign up, please visit: https://childrenscancernorth.org.uk/ and click ‘join in the fun’ once choose the ‘adult / child / family’ option it will ask if you’re running for a school. Type in ‘Ravenswood Primary School’ and you’ll be able to join our team. We should be starting the run at 10am on Sunday. We’d love to see you there.

Smartwatches

We would like to remind everyone that smartwatches are not permitted in school. As with mobile phones, children should not bring devices that can take photographs, access the internet, play games, or send messages.

These devices can be highly distracting during the school day, and our priority is to ensure that all pupils remain focused on their learning.

Children are welcome to wear simple analogue or standard digital watches; however, smartwatches are not allowed.

Thank you for your support.
